I'm thinking about something with Dangsuardian (unmaintained) or E2guardian these softs are working in proxy mode and I guess this is an obsolete mode now. Or perhaps with something intermediate like: Squid -> Ecap service -> DansGuardian ? E-CAP/ICAP seems very powerful but I can't find a free content filter with it Regards William From rousskov at measurement-factory.com Tue Aug 25 20:35:04 2015 From: rousskov at measurement-factory.com (Alex Rousskov) Date: Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:35:04 -0600 Subject: Ecap convertor In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <55DCD178.6060208@measurement-factory.com> On 08/25/2015 12:09 PM, wmunny william wrote: > Sorry if my question is stupid, but I wonder if we can easily > "convert" a proxy service to Ecap. No, you cannot easily convert an HTTP proxy service to an eCAP service. Serious development work is required to teach an HTTP proxy to speak eCAP. > Or perhaps with something intermediate like: Squid -> Ecap service -> > DansGuardian ? Yes, that is possible. You will need to write that eCAP service and you will lose most of the eCAP advantages, but it is technically possible. Teaching DansGuardian or E2guardian to talk eCAP instead may be a better alternative, especially if you care about performance. > E-CAP/ICAP seems very powerful but I can't find a free content filter with it There are non-free eCAP and ICAP content filters though. If you want to filter just viruses and malware, then ClamAV is popular, free, and has free eCAP and ICAP(?) services that you can test. Please do not misinterpret my response as a recommendation to use any of the services mentioned. HTH, Alex. Yes Clamav is a good soft, but my need is different, I hope someone can take a look at e2guardian and make it better with ecap/icap Thank
